Woman of Steel Gallery and Garden City Waterfront District, along with the Idaho Metal Arts Guild, celebrate the Chinese heritage of Garden City with a Dragon Parade, Block Party and Juried Art Show on October 3, 2009. The October full moon is the perfect time to recall the splendid Dragon Parades and Moon Festivals of Idaho’s Chinese citizens. Artists and artisans in all media are invited to participate. This is a grass roots effort rising from community pride, which is attracting redevelopment in this section of Garden City--designated as a Work Live Create District by the City Council.
The Dragon Parade features an authentic “10-child” Chinese dragon in a traditional undulating street dance. In addition, students from Garden City Community School (whose mascot is the Chinese dragon!) will parade with decorated bikes, tricycles and wagons. Children all over the Treasure Valley and their parents are also invited to join the effort by contributing their own Dragons to the festive parade. For more information contact: Mary Beth Cooper at (208)608-8475.
The Block Party will take place in Old Town, Garden City's new Waterfront District, at the foot of 36th Street. Art, craft and food booths will provide a festive atmosphere for shopping and dining, while traditional Asian dancers perform on a free public stage. We want you to be part of the fun! Applications for booth space can be found at http://womanofsteelgallery.com or contact Margaret Ratliff at 208.867.0713 or idahometalartsguild@gmail.com.
