Unnatural Naturally Workshop
Saturday 5 Feb | 10am - 5pm | Metal Design Studio | Cost: $85
A one day workshop with Lauren Simeoni and Melinda Young exploring materials & deconstructing the found object.
Contemporary jewellers Lauren Simeoni and Melinda Young work with found materials alongside traditional techniques in their work – they have a keen interest in both the subversion of the natural and the role the deconstruction/reconstruction of the found object plays in the development of concept, visual language and narrative.
Simeoni and Young are working on a collaborative exhibition project Unnatural, Naturallywhich has been shown in Sydney and Melbourne as well as Auckland and Wellington, New Zealand. Unnatural, Naturallywill be shown in JamFactory Gallery 2 from 5 February – 20 March 2011.
Both artists are specifically working with artificial plant foliage as a shared material and using a shared sketchbook, which is posted back and forth between their hometowns of Sydney and Adelaide as a means of developing both their concepts and technique.
To coincide with the exhibition Unnatural Naturally, they are presenting a jewellery workshop focusing on the theme: Unnatural Jewellery. Participants will be encouraged to experiment with and deconstruct a variety of found materials whilst developing and working to a theme.
