Valerie Aked’s passion for both silver and the sea has culminated in her presentation of the exhibition Tidal Wonder. Using a range of organic forms found washed up on beaches by the tide, Valerie has created a body of work alive with the essence of the ocean.
This exhibition includes not only jewellery but also sculpture and objects made from precious metals and gemstones, and incorporates a wide range of techniques in their creation – specialist techniques such as mokume gane, plique-à-jour enamelling and Keum Boo.
The exhibition will be opened on Tuesday 19th October at 6.30pm by Christine Erratt, Australian silver researcher and author.
Valerie has mastered her skills during her career as a gold and silversmith. Her work is represented in both private and public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra and the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney. Her commitment to the practice of silversmithing has included teaching and mentoring students through the Valerie Aked Silver Studio.
Tidal Wonder presents an exquisite range of jewellery and objects that is emblematic of Valerie Aked’s dedication to fine craftsmanship.
