Hi fellow Sustainability in Jewellery members,

I'd love to invite all of you who are in Melbourne, Australia to join us for

Once More, With Love at Northcity4!

For more info on Once More, With Love (OMWL), click here.

The more the merrier - OMWL is a travelling exhibition with accompanying events and it's all about sustainability, recycling and ethical production in jewellery.

We're really wanting OMWL to harness and futher dialogue of these issues already occuring within our local jewellery communities (such as found in this group) and raise awareness with the broader public.

In this 'Sustainability and Jewellery' group, everyone has a mutual interest in furthering sustainability within our field... so we'd love you to come join us for discussions about "Sustainable Jewellery" at the Conversation Forum.

And if you like to get your hands busy, come skill-share ethical making at the Weekend Workshop.

For more details on the OMWL project, see www.oncemorewithlove.com

Thanks, and Happy 2013!

Suse

I love a bit of theory with my practical. Research is great fun, if you can get paid for it. Thanks Sarah

Quite a while ago I found a source for certified organic cotton waxed cord. The products name is Blue Bird and its made in India, however they only sell in in large wholesale amounts. So I did some searching and have found Maine Thread Company do sell it in 100m spools they just dont say its certified organic. A spool of 2mm black has just been delivered and its a great product. I have been running low on organic cotton cord since my first supplier vanished so It will be nice to have a reliable source again.

Spring is finally happening here in the southern hemisphere and we (Utopian Creations) are already booked up with commissions right through to the end of December. We are always looking for interesting fashion jewellery to sell in our shop Studio Eco so jump on our website and send me a message if you have any cool eco collections.

Have a great weekend!

Ben

Hello all

Recently I sent everyone a message asking for participation in a survey for a university project.  Just wanted to say thanks for helping me out.  Much appreciated.

I was a very interesting project but I am glad to get back to the workshop!

Thanks again

Vanessa Williams (http://www.wix.com/VRWjewellery/VRW) has brought the Craft Australia sustainability blog forum to my attention. If your looking for inspiration or have a great new product it could be a way to show it off and get some feedback. http://craftaustralia.blogspot.com/search/label/case%20study

Hi Guys,

I received this below as an email. As it is directly related to the values some of our jewellers are committed to I thought I should pass it on in case you haven't heard of it already...

 Cheers, Cath D

Ethical Metalsmiths is actively seeking applications for their new project, the Jeweler Directory. The online database will introduce jewelers who are informed and committed to social and environmental responsibility with consumers who are searching for quality, ethically sourced hand made jewelry.

Ethical Jewelers sought for virtual Directory                                                       FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

College Corner, Ohio, July 18, 2011 -- Ethical Metalsmiths is actively seeking applications for their new project, the Jeweler Directory. The online database will introduce jewelers who are informed and committed to social and environmental responsibility with consumers who are searching for quality, ethically sourced hand made jewelry. The directory will offer jewelers a unique opportunity to promote their values as well as their jewelry.

Each jeweler will be featured on a full page including an image, a brief biography, a statement of values, contact details and a link to their website. People can search for jewelers by business, name, location or key words. As it grows, the directory will be widely advertised and promoted.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all checklist to evaluate ethicalness, but jewelers should be committed to taking steps to build ethics and sustainability into their practice. Foundations can include choosing materials responsibly, promoting supply chain transparency, adopting sustainable studio practices, staying informed, supporting mining reform efforts, and including a values and principles statement on their website. Participation in the Jeweler Directory will be limited to independent jewelers and small studios.

Countless people around the world are working heroically to protect communities and the environment, promote fair trade and defend human rights. But, in the words of Hellen Keller, “The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of tiny pushes of each honest worker.”

The Jeweler Directory can be seen at www.EthicalMetalsmiths.org/directory. Currently, jewelers listed include Birgit Kupke-Peyla, Geoffrey Giles, Alexandra Hart, Kirsten Muenster, Bario-Neal, TAP Studios, Gabriel Craig, Ute Decker, Valerie Kasinskas, Stacey Lane, Chris Nelson, Ben Neubauer and Karen Olsen Ramsey.

Listing fees will be used to maintain and promote the directory as well support Ethical Metalsmiths’ programs. The annual listing fee is $100. The initial set-up fee of $25 will be waived for jewelers who apply before September 1, 2011.  Detailed information about the directory and how to apply are available online.

Questions about the Jeweler Directory should be directed to:
