This piece is part of my college course.
The inspiration came from the Stardust episode of Prof Brian Cox series "Wonders of the Universe" in which he explains that every human being has about a billion billion billion carbon atoms in their body! Every single atom of carbon in every one of us was created in the heart of a dying star billions of years ago!
Metals such as Gold and Silver require much higher temperatures for their creation, A super Nova explosion (the death of a giant star which results in a nebula) is the only place in the universe hot enough to power this kind of fusion.
Astronomers believe the next star in our Galaxy to go Super Nova will be Betelgeuse in the Orion constellation. It has dimmed by 15% in recent years and could go Super Nova at any time!
"We can trace our history back hundreds of thousands of years, to the dawn of Human kind but in reality our story extends much further back to the creation of the universe. It's story is our story." - Prof Brian Cox (Wonders of the Universe)
Our identity is linked to the lives and deaths of the stars. Their constant battle to maintain equilibrium and their eventual death resulting in the nebulae which are in turn the birth place of new stars is the greatest Identity Parade in the Universe.
