About
I work primarily with fine silver, which is softer, warranting the weaving techniques evolved throughout 25 years of jewellery-making. No weave is the same- this overtly hand-made characteristic never ceases to attract me.

The interlaced silver and gold ribbon hint of the social fabric of Rio de Janeiro State, where I grew up. A place where strands of wealth and poverty, ethics and violence, culture and corruption are constantly intertwining, intuitively rendering a work aesthetic which is rootsy but urban, classy but understated.

The weaving process itself feels very much like a search, intrinsically born of the state I am. A good state would be one through which I allow the weaving to flow and grow 'inevitably'... Into a piece that will never be repeated, as it reflects that specific moment, each moment manifesting itself, cherished in its uniqueness, revealing itself to my wonder of the here and now.

Not that there is little effort involved: my hands are 'like contortionists dancing', someone with a poet's heart told me once, while witnessing my pursuit of a tactile, contemporary and ultimately wearable piece.

Design - Craft - Art : I try to blur their boundaries... good thought and good design that should go into the piece, the hand-crafted aspect and the skill which it requires as well as my artistic expression- all three are as important to me.

All work is hand-made in my workshop in Cork City.

We did visit the Niterói, and it had a few jewellery and object related pieces which was fantastic. Rio is an amazing city, and I can see why you could get homesick!!

Ended up travelling to a town called Rari (6 hours south of Santiago) Where the Crin horse weaving originates, received a demonstration and chatted with a couple of lovely ladies in the village which did this craft.

Thanks so much for all your tips!

I love your work too. Amazing woven metals :) I am still on the South American adventure. Just got to Brazil, Rio. Is there any contemporary jewellery galleries you can recommend a trip to?

Hi P., After a year of not logging into K&C, I've finally caught up with you. I'm trying to be a little more conscientious now, regarding posting, and have put a couple of images up recently. Thanks for the friendship, Cheers, Phill.
