About
Stephenie Lynch - Arcadia Rose Jewellery Design; you can find my Etsy shop at http://www.etsy.com/shop/arcadiarose

I was born in Wellington, New Zealand and have Irish and English heritage. My Family moved to Australia in 1977. I grew up in Brisbane in various locations. My parents influenced my creativity and design background. My Father was an Architect, Designer, Builder and Carpenter. My Mother spent her professional career designing and making clothing for various companies, from industrial scale pattern making and cutting, to custom orders.

I moved to Sydney in 1995 to study Theatre Make-up; after working in various retail, hospitality and administration jobs, I completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Jewellery and Object Art Design), Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney, 2007.

Mokume Gane, pronounced (moe’-koo-may gah’-nay). Means: "wood-grain metal" or "wood-eye metal". Traditionally made from many layers of Silver, Copper, Shibuichi, Shakudo and other metals, fused together, forged, rolled and worked to achieve patterns resembling wood grain.

My final year at University was spent researching and making Mokume Gane. My interest in the technique is attributed to the infinite variations achieved, the production of these patterns parallels with the ephemerality of life.

The Alchemy process that occurs in making Mokume Gane involves new crystals actually growing across the two surfaces to create the bond. These beautiful patterns are reminiscent of the patterns found in nature, it is in this way we are reminded of, and appreciate nature and perhaps our existence in it.

My work explores expression of narrative and sentiment, in comparison with nature, through reflection of personal growth and appreciation of aesthetics.
I began making stock for my Etsy shop at the beginning of 2009, whilst I was working full-time. Arcadia Rose Jewellery Design was opened on 06th January 2010.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any enquiries,
or would like to request a custom made item.
