About
Having come to jewellery design from a fine art background the transition from huge gestural pieces to small, precise ones was an interesting move, and one which I feel gives my designs a sense of ease and spontaneity.
I work, for the most part, in precious metals, but will use other materials when I feel they are more appropriate to the design. Often the use of fabric, wood, or steel provides a dramatic contrast when combined with precious metals and stones, and this can result in a more interesting and meaningful piece of jewellery.
My recent body of work is concerned with the symbolism of flowers, what they signified in the past and signify now. I find the darker side of their beauty both interesting and inspiring.

I strongly believe that the right piece of jewellery will add a little visual poetry to your day.

panicking

I'm exhibiting at my first trade show next week. International Jewellery London at Earls Court.
At least with a trade show I don't have to have loads of stock made up in the hope of selling it all. This time I'm supposed to take the orders and then panic at the thought of having to make them up in time. I'm distracting myself by being online when I really should be getting on with my catalogue, my portfolio, my lookbook and, of course my actual jewellery.

I met a fellow exhibitor in the newsagents as we were both flicking through a copy of Retail Jeweller to see if we were in it. Really funny. Fortunately we both were, though they didn't print any pics of my jewellery. (weird!) I mean, as interesting as I am (I really an, just ask my mum!) surely the whole point of writing about my jewellery would be to show it. That way they wouldn't have to have written 2 paragraphs describing it. But hey, I'm still really pleased to be in the mag.

Curating an exhibition, making new friends and standing for four days.

The Treasure exhibition finished yesterday, and I'm still buzzing a little now that it's over.

In the build up to the show there were never enough hours in the day. I'm sure people didn't believe me when I said I had no time to do anything other than visit Hatton Garden several times a week( to pick up castings, go home, clean them up, deliver them to the platers, go home again, collect them, take them to the assay office etc. etc. )

An endless round of chores that I could so easily… Continue

8th - 14th June London will be buzzing with Jewellery Week.. Sponsored by Coutts and with exhibitions and events taking place all across the capital, there really will be something for everyone.

What really floats my boat at the moment is the fact that myself and some very talented colleagues have formed a collective, and will be exhibiting for the first time at TREASURE as the 'LONDON JEWELLERY COLLECTIVE.'

Treasure will take place in Covent Garden, and, as part of our launch… Continue

Sore feet

When a renowned department store such as Liberty's of London has an open call for new designers you can pretty much guarantee that the queue to see the buyers will be a long one. Just how long was a revelation.

As we stood in a very long line of hopeful designers, my friend Catherine Marche and I could only look with pity at the fabulous 6 inch high D'Havilland shoes in front of us. In any other circumstances those dark green beauties would have caused me to salivate uncontrollably… Continue

Group exhibitions

I admit that I'm someone who mentally rearranges other peoples furniture, and I might note if your pictures are too big for the room, but I'd never volunteer my opinion unless it was requested.

But when things are visually 'off,' it bothers me.

I have lots of things that are visually 'off' in my own home, but I know that eventually they will be put right and I'll stop twitching about them.

Exhibitions are another matter.

I have recently formed a collective with some… Continue

Hi Linnie,
Thanks for your email.I am afraid the same situation is here in Perth, where we put things in a sale or return basis and when they do finally sell a piece they take 50%.The other problem is I find Perth very conservative espescially to my type of work which I find frustrating.
Its quite funny because I was thinking of trying overseas.Europe and the U.S.I would be very grateful if you could give me the names of a few galleries who might be interested in my work that I could contact.
Best regards
Willem

Hi Linnie!

You are too kind! I would love to see more stuff or recent work of yours! :) Your photography is also grand! I really believe that is the key, espeacially as I am trying to bring contemporary jewellery to an audience who is littered with commercialism. . . . sigh... Lets hope it works!

Hope you are still making! I love your wire rings! I wanna see more! :)

Love ALi
