We are calling for applicants from graduates who have completed tertiary jewellery/object design related study in the past 2 years.
SquarePeg is offering two 3 month residencies in 2012 (February and June) for highly motivated recent graduates who wish to expand their practice in a supportive and creative studio environment.
The Residency program provides the successful applicant with studio space, for three months, to develop their own work. As part of the program one or two SquarePeg resident artist will provide guidance, focusing on areas of skills development in professional practice, business and grant writing. Further feedback and critique is provided through visiting artists, designers and through a process of peer-to-peer learning with tenants who have successful independent practices. The residency offers 3 months rent free for a 2.5m x 3m work area in a 200sqm warehouse, with access to machinery, including hydraulic press, sandblaster, drills, belt sander, soldering area and kilns.
SquarePeg Studios is a new contemporary jewellery workshop located within the vibrant arts precinct of Newtown in Sydney. A space for emerging and established jewellers to work together in a creative and supportive environment, the studio provides a range of activities for the Sydney jewellery community and general public, including jewellery classes, master classes, residencies, mentorships, artist talks and studio sales.
Applications close on 24 December 2011. Applicants may be asked to visit SquarePeg to discuss their applications with members of the Studio. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application in early January. All decisions are final.
