Chilean Crin

I'm heading on another South American adventure in September this year. We went early last year down to the south...experienced the patagonian and national park region. I stumbled briefly across a unique weaving form, using brightly coloured horse hair woven by hand into intricate little animals and flower structures.

As I begin planning the next trip, I'm wondering if anyone out here in kit&Caboodle land may have knowledge of any galleries or workshops held in Chile specifically to this craft..

Great you found it!!, I'm so sorry I didn't make the workshop, I am depending on others to solve that.

Send photos of your results after the practice, they will be great for sure, hope the new skills contribute to your beautiful work.

Are you doing it with coloured crin (brought some?) or natural?.

Back from the holiday, and I was lucky enough to find the town of Rari (6 hours drive south of Santiago) It was a quaint town, with almost every household having a stall out the front with brightly coloured Crin in every colour, shape and size. The creativity and detail in these pieces amazed me, I was lucky enough to be shown a demonstration of how the weaving process is done, so into the workshop to practice, practice, practice!

Hi Kimberly,

I am Chilean and I learned to do some basic things with Crin, is a beautiful and very traditional craft from an country area  near Linares, south of  Santiago, called Rari, is a small town where the women make this, is like knitting.

They are grouped to work and sell, some of them go to Santiago occasionally to do workshops in some places related to jewellery or crafts, I have a jewellery school in Santiago an they went there to teach us theirs skills, last year or the year before.

Now I am in Brisbane and I'll be here for a year, if you want I can tell you more of this and show you this Crin circles an the material.
