GIOVANNI CORVAJA GRANULATION WORKSHOP
Dates: 18-22 April, 2011 (40 hours total)
Since 1996 Giovanni Corvaja has been fascinated by granulation and researched this technique in depth. This workshop will give participants a general overview of the ancient traditional method, as well as additional ideas for further, more contemporary application of the technique. Another important component of the course is building and working with a very specialized production method using low budget equipment. Each student will be supplied with the necessary materials, at the price of cost. Items made will be taken home by the participants.
About Giovanni Corvaja:
Born in Padova, Italy in 1971, Corvaja is an internationally known goldsmith artist whose work challenges accepted notions of goldsmithing techniques and expands the boundaries of what is believed possible within the jewellery and metalsmithing field. Brought up in a family of scientists, his fascination with metals led him to pursue his studies at Pietro Selvatico High School of Art in Padua under the tuition of a master goldsmith artist Francesco Pavan. He continued his studies in the field of art jewellery at the Royal College of Art in London. Upon graduating from the Royal College with a Master of Fine Arts degree, he returned to Italy to pursue his artistic career in goldsmithing and has been working as a freelance goldsmith artist ever since.
Exhibiting his work internationally since 1989, Corvaja’s work has been presented in more than 150 solo and group exhibitions worldwide. He has received a number of essential international prizes and recognitions, and his exquisite pieces are in numerous collections of the major museums in Europe, America and Australia.
Enrolment deadline: 18 March, 2011, minimum 7 participants
